Plumbago auriculata 'Royal Cape'

Plumbago Royal Cape, Leadwort, Cape Plumbago

Description

An fast growing, evergreen shrub with soft, green foliage and continual flushes of intense blue, phlox-like flowers from late Spring to Autumn. It has a more compact habit than the straight species and doesn't sucker.'Royal Cape' has a preference for full sun to partial shade and a moist, well drained, fertile soil. Water well to establish but thereafter minimal water is required as it becomes drought and heat tolerant. It is marginally frost hardy but can tolerate salt spray, sand and salinity. To obtain optimum colour and achieve best growth rates, fertilise well with a slow release fertiliser and water well when growing. Prune lightly after flowering to promote strong new growth, otherwise it may become woody. Lovely as a specimen shrub or an informal hedge. Can also be grown in tubs on patios or balconies.
